180 what?

DPI? If so then you will go no higher. You cannot alter the DPI count in camera. Just shoot at the max size and quality and you will get the highest res the camera can produce.

Why do you need more than 180dpi?

The 180 you're seeing in Photoshop has nothing to do with the image size coming out of your camera. It's actually the resolution of the image in PS (180 dpi). You can increase the image resolution in PS, but the overall size of the image will be reduced accordingly.

What's important is the size of the image in the camera measured in pixels. That's what determines how much detail will be in your image. If your images are approximately 3,000 pixels by 2,000 pixels, you're getting the maximum resolution from the camera. (JPEG copression notwithstanding). If you check the dimensions of your photoshop image, you should see that it's roughly 17 inches wide by 11 3/8 inches high. If you resize the image based on 300 dpi, it will be 10.2 inches wide by 6.8 inches high.

I suspect the 180dpi figure is a result of the fact that optimum printing resolution for most inkjet printers is deemed to be around 180-200 dpi in most cases.

Again, don't confuse camera resolution, image resolution, printer resolution, or new year's resolutions. They're all different.

That New Year's Resolution always throws me when I am editing too. I just gave up and started ignoring it altogether and everything comes out fine.

Interpolation action:

I have uploaded the actions for D30 or any files, But the file sizes are based on 8.9 meg files. (actually one is to about 100 megs one is to 311 megs (30X40" @300dpi) and one is for excellent 9x12'S which is the standard format I use for model portfolios) The link below will let you download the action usually to adobe>photoshop6.0>presets>photoshopactions its called myinterpolation2a.atn you can change the name, the indeivdual actions say to 100megs, to 300megs and to 9x12 all are at 300dpi and all are based on an original d30 file either full frame or cropped to 9x12 proportionally. I would warn that these actions take a while depending on the speed of your system, also they are purging the history a few times throughout to save space and time, and i would reccommend that you do this as the almost last step after merging to only one layer (mulitiple layers at 311 megs is a very large file to deal with) you should do everything except sharpen before running these actions, the 9x12 actually does oversize then blur the pixels then sharpen and reduce size but the others do no sharpening at all so as to leave the final amount of sharpening up to the individual picture. Hope they work well for you all. If you have any questions feel free to email me through the site

Thx for all your comments and help. Issue is now resolved with excellent results and now have a better understanding of: how to 1) maximize resolution while shooting, and 2) DPI in Photoshop Elements.

Belmondo was trying to write a love song to his favorite camera lens. Something like "You're going to fall for me!"

I've got the first verse done:

I love my white lens,
With passion unspoken.
Whoops I just dropped it.
And now it is broken.

I'll send it to Canon
Along with some money,
And soon I will be
Rejoined with my honey.

That sounds like a sequence of Burma Shave signs.

(But I only know that from reading history books.)
