Edit: Title should say "Micro Trekker 200" not "Mini Trekker 200"
I had a Slingshot 100 AW for a couple weeks. I was thrilled with the quality, ease of use, and small size. Unfortunatly, as soon as I got a Lee wideangle Folder and a 4x6 grad, the Slingshot 100 would not hold the filter set, my 30D, and small selection of lenses I have just aquired (10-22mm, 50mm mII 1.8, Sigma 17-70mm).
I also just got a 3441 Feisol travelor tripod and an Ultimate Ballhead. The tripod is super light (ballhead + tripod are about 2.7 lbs and onlyu 169 inches folded) and folds up small. I could attach the tripod to the Slingshot 100 by slipping one of the legs through the monopode loop holder. However, this loop holder is not really meant for a tripod.
I sold the Slingshot 100 and now ordered the Slingshot 200, which should fit my gear. However, I am reading some good things about the Mini Trekker 200. It's pretty small AND it also has a dedicated tripod attachment holder -- which is a big plus for me.
I have gone on a few short outtings with the Slingshot 100 and loved how easy it was to access the camera. I found it wasn't so good when you wanted to changed lenses though, just for quickly grabbing your camera with the lenses attached then quickly storing it away again. It was comfortable but I haven't tested it during all day hikes or urban outtings yet. I imagine the wearing the 200 is about the same as the 100.
I will be going to China for 3 weeks next month and I expect I will be doing lots and lots of urban "hikes" (touring the forbidden palace, exploring the varous cities, etc) and a few day hikes into the country side/villages (yangsho, guilin). Lots of plane and bus travel too.
I like the idea of a slingshot for the urban touring. Easy to pull the camera out and take shots; easy to put it away. However, I am a bit concerned how comforatable the singshot 200 will be, compared to the micro trekker 200, if I have it on my back ALL day, which I expect I will, every day. I will also be hiking up some mountains too. I like the AW cover on the slingshot and I wish the micro trekker 200 had it, especially since it might rain cats and dogs in china.
Slipping the tripod leg through the monopod hoop in the Slingshot 200 may or maynot work out very well. It works in my living room, but I better hope to God the rubber loop doesn't break free with the weight of the tripod! I may have to pack the tripod case/bag just in case!
Can you guys help me decide? Keep new Slingshot 200 for trip or sell and pick up a Micro Trekker 200.
