The mini bike returns with an electric motor. My neighbor's 5-6 year old zooms down the sidewalk at 15-20MPH. A lovely "toy" to have slam into the side of my Buick. i checked the net a crazy parent will shell out $400 for this model. No guess on the doctor and hospital bills when the poor un-coordinated fellow crashes and burns (sparks?) on my front lawn. For me I 'm sued and loose my house because I planted that yew shrub too close to the sidewalk. They walk among us and breed.

well if you don't like the neighbors, screw them over, i don't know about there, but here those spell illegal all over it especially riding freely around like that. have a look at your local by-laws and see what can be done.

In California this classifies as a motorized bicycle and as such requires a special driver's license and a helmet...

Wonder how much the manufacturer's insurance premium went up when they introduced this jewel.

Ow man ...

From all the things .. it's the no shoes ... All the rest whell. I agree you would need a helmet and safety gear. But then again I remember myself at that age with a normal bicycle going those speeds runnin down the street or dirtroads. My knees and elbows are full of scars ... never wore a helmet. But DAMN no shoes .... I can feel my toes break ...

^^^ you are the people who get in the way of 'natural selection'....

Like said before, i have gone faster on a normal bicycle and quite often when i was younger.

Actually it's my nephew on my daughter’s scooter. Pretty sure it would have the same drive train as the mini bike posted above. They are battery operated and don't go much faster than a bicycle. I do make my daughter wear shoes and a helmet (most of the time), but I am not so paranoid about her falling off that I flip out if she doesn't every once in a while. When I think of the things I did at this age on a bike (motorized and pedal powered) I am surprised I lived. Shoes and helmet were the least of my problems!

Safety is a very big concern for me too (I'm the guy you laugh at for looking like a "Power Ranger" in full gear riding his motorcycle on 100 degree days), but I also feel you have to let them be young! They'll learn "stupid hurts" hurts on their own better than ANYONE can tell them.

I like the last photo. There's sense of movement, yet boy's face is clear and shows pure exitement.
But the first one could be just as well a photo of my neighbour's kid. Exept his bike is yellow. He zooms up and down our street on full throttle, going faster on that stretch than most cars do. Doesn't pay any attention to crossings or streetcorners, a disaster waiting to happen.
Probably a dim lightbulb had finally turned on in his mother's head because yesterday he appeared with a styrofoam bicycle helmet strapped to his head. Oh, yeah, his bike has 50cc gasoline engine:x
