Hi yall.. just picked up my sd850 from best buy for $285 so I have some cash to spend on a big sdhc card. In the manual, it says that the camera supports SDHC cards, but it doesn't give a maximum size. So does this mean I can go with any size? Any recommendations on which type SDHC card to get? Thanks!

Should take any size SDHC currently available - they're nowhere near the design limits of the new spec.
Personally, I trust SanDisk cards of whatever kind.

The SDHC specification goes up to 32GB. As the largest cards commercially available at this time are, I believe, 8GB, I wouldn't worry about size limits.
That said, I would question why you want a huge card. Unless you need to shoot lots of video clips without changing card, you're putting all your eggs in a single basket. If something corrupts data on that card, you could lose a tremendous amount of pictures and video clips. You also have no flexibility to keep shooting whilst someone else downloads your data.
I shoot RAW on my DSLR, so we're talking a typical file size of 8.5MBytes per image. I use 2GB and 4GB cards, and see no need for anything larger.

Hello, I also just purchased the SD 850IS and was looking to get a new card. I agree with the comments about putting all your eggs in one basket and that you really don't need much more than 1-2 gb cards. My question is this: Do the new SDHC cards have a higher Data Transfer Rate that the older cards? And if so, where can I find out what the maximum DTS of the SD850 is, so that I don't buy more card than the camera can take advantage of? For example, it would be silly to by a class 6 card when the camera can only puts out 2mb/sec of data. I tried calling technical support, and while they were very nice, they recommended that I should get "the medium quality" card, because they did not have information on the data transfer speed of the camera. Any help, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. K

How do you guys like your camers? IU am hoping to convince my wife to spend a little more $ and get this one instead of one without the IS.
