so in my search for the ultimate bag, i just got myself the Lowepro Lens Trekker 600 along with 3 lens cases and a pouch. well, it has been 2 hours and i finally figured out how to put this bag together. i will admit that this was more challenging than the last semester of my MBA....

Yeah - but an MBA's not a real degree with any practical use, other than running previously-successful companies into the ground.

There is no such thing as the ultimate bag:p

Usually two or three will suffice:D

Actually selecting the right camera bag can be termed as an optimization problem. I think them MBA kids do some Linear Programming or something in their coursework.

You definitely need to optimize. Costs, current and future equipment, weight, typical loadout etc. Thats why its almost impossible to find "the bag" but rather a combination of bags depending on the situation. So you are only optimized for a given set of conditions (duh) and never for all set of conditions.

If you let me expound further (using my piled higher & deeper knowledge), optimization often does not account for utility. So my CompuRover AW is highly optimized for travel but it has very low utility when you reach the destination. My Mini Trekker is highly optimized to carry gear but it offers very low utility in terms of travel.

Watch the FedEx Commercial making fun of MBAs. (http://www.fedex.com/us/about/unitedstates/advertising/tvads/mbawm.html) Very funny.

Nice bag.

I agree, I have three bags myself and each has its own little purpose. One for a quick outdoor session, one for indoor studio setup, and one for storage. The do all, be all ultimate bag is a myth.

What about a pic of you wearing it. That looks like a reaalllly looonnnnnggg bag. We won't get into the compensating jokes, since we've seen the 500 in the pix.

Thanks heavens you don't have a Ph.D. Otherwise, it would have taken you longer while you pondered all the different possibilities for arranging the pounches and bags, weighed the cons and pros of each, charted it and then drew a conclusion on which was the better option and then finding someone to implement that option for you.  ;)
