Hello, I own a PowerShot A510 and I am set to take some automobile macro photography this week. I know that the camera I own is not professional, but the student project that I am working on calls for some macro photography and this is all that I have. I am going to school for graphic design and for this particular project I am builiding a 10 pg. catalog devoted to the 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird line.

Do you have any tips or suggestions as to how to go about shooting this? I've taken photography and I am comfortable with both black and white analog and digital, but what else can I do besides flip on the macro setting on my camera? Thanks!

I had an A510 before my S3 and it always took excellent macros. I still have it and have a list of settings I used which helped me in getting good photos, including macros, I'll list them here in case you want to try them out and see how they work for you:

P Mode

Resolution: Largest and Superfine
Function button settings: Exp. +1/3, Auto WB, Single Shot Drive Mode, ISO 100, Vivid color, Evaluative Metering.

In Menu: AiAf OFF, Redeye Reduction OFF, MF Point zoom ON, Af assist beam ON, Digital Zoom OFF, review 3 sec.

Everything else default.

I also found that when shooting macro, either use a tripod to keep it still, or use the viewfinder, not the LCD, as holding the camera out in front of you will increase shake.

And then, just set it to macro and it does well.

Hope that helps a little, just be sure to practice some with mine or your own settings till you get the results you like best.
