Took the camera when we went out with the puppies today....an exercise in frustration  only ended up liking one of the pics I took......99.9% wrong settings, a little OOF, wrong light etc etc etc!

Have had the rebel for a couple of days and at the moment it's bewildering, exciting and times very frustrating! My Sony 717 is still like a comfortable old friend - I can just pick it up and use it w/out having to think......the settings on the rebel, the way it handles......so very different. But the results when I get it right are just magic :D

Meet 'Chase' a cavalier king charles spaniel, belongs to a friend. Critique appreciated......I need all the help I can get in understanding my new friend. F10.0, ISO 100, 1/160, Av mode

Great shot!!!

And a cute dog!!!

The Rebel is a great challenge..............and will take time to master. IT will be worth it in the end though.

Keep on shootin'

Nice. I'd like to see more space on the right, even if you have to crop half the left side ear off to get the illusion of more space on the right. But, it's OK as it is, too.
(Love my 300D, too!)

That's one cute puppy. I'll trade you for my cat. :?

I like the image except I would have wanted some more space on the right and the highligts in the white hair around the nose appear to be blown. Try burning them in a little if you can.

You may not be able to do it with this pic but, right now, the optical center of the picture is the dog's right eye. If you try centering between the eyes you will get that "more space on the right" that everyone is talking about.

In video, we call it "lead space". That gives room as a subject is facing one way for him to move forward. Even if he doesn't actually move you don't get the impression that the person is talking to a wall or the edge of the screen. I find this transfers to stills as well. Imagine that the subject is moving in the direction he is facing.

I also agree Ssim the white is a little high. If the original image is overexposed you may not be able to re-introduce detail to that area and if you burn more, you might just get a flat grey. If the image is ok and it's just in PS that you got it too bright it might be salvagable. Good luck.

I'll chime in too, I love my D Rebel too. Keep experimenting you'll get a lot more great pics of that cute little guy.
