It's going to be a wet weekend in NYC. I was wondering what others do when it rains. Do you put a bag over the camera & lens? Do you shoot from a car? Any advice is appreciated! TIA!

I have used a big plastic bag over me and the camera in the past but I now carry a storm jacket for the camera and it's big enough to fit the 100-400 fully extended.

I keep my equipment in my Nova bag with its little rain coat on and carry a golf umbrella. Time comes to take a pic, my partner hold the umbrella while I do what I have to do. Works well unless there is a strong wind. Did this in Hawaii recently whilst we were hiking up in the rain forests.

I always used to use a plastic bag. These days I don't shoot in the rain as the lighting is flat and there's not enough light.

i use manual focus sometimes cuz the camera will sometimes focus on the rain instead on the intended target, i do this when its snowing too and I'll use a kata bag

I also use the Storm Jacket. Works wonders and is small and portable so it is with you and gets used.

Storm jacket!

EOS 3 with 70-200, and hope the weather seal is still working. I use an umbrella and a poncho.

I really like that they take up so little room in the bag and they can be clipped on the belt for rapid deployment if necessary.

When it was howling down rain in the storms recently that washed a bulk carrier up on our beaches I went out to take photos of it.. wrapped my 20D in a platic bag and taped up the edges with Transpore tape (hospital stuff), tearing a small hole for the eyepiece and taping the bag all around my 24-70's lens mount, leaving the lens sticking out to be battered by the elements. It rained so hard it was actually acutely painful walking back to the car but the quick solution worked alright - did get some small amount of water inside the bag which I dried off as soon as I got under cover. 24-70's weather sealing works fantastically.

Mind you, were I to do it again I'd be buying some proper rain gear.. I don't want to chance getting ANY water in the camera. But for a quick "Crap, gotta get out and get this shot" it worked pretty well.

Towel over the camera =) I've never shot in the rain before, but I have in a foam party. Granted my outfit was weathersealed (17-40L, UV filter, 1D)... but I didn't trust it with the firehose going everywhere. So yeah, towel over the camera... I figured direct spray was bad.
