I'm planning to buy 5Dc + 28-70L + 135L some time this/next year. Would it be enough for everyday walkaround? I'm kinda torn between 28-70 and used 24-70. 18mm on kit lens is wide enough for me so 28mm on FF shouldn't be much of a problem, but I found out that I like the shorter MFD on 24-70 more, which on should I buy? Also, a bit off (this) topic I liked the 135L more than the 70-200 f4L when I tested them at local store, but would it be too limiting if I buy 135L then 70-200 2-3 years later? Thanks in advance.

I would say grab 5Dc, then 28-70, then 135. The 135 + 5Dc is a magical combo, one that I am after by the end of the summer!

Thank you! Would you recommend 28-70 over 24-70? Also, would I miss the newer stuff from my 550D/T2i? It's missing of big screen and sensor cleaning really got me... Can I see if the image is focused correctly / has right WB on 5Dc screen?

this review made my decision for the 28-70 over the 24-70. Didn't seem too significant improvements for the extra cost for me because it is a hobby. My first "real" L and I love it. (My first L was the EF-s 17-55 :-P IM KIDDING! or am I? )

I shoot with both the 28-70 and 24-70. Here are my observations:

28-70 is better because...

colors seem more pleasing to me
bokeh slightly more pleasing
less expensive

24-70 is better because...

slightly more contrasty
newer
feels slightly more solid
weather sealed
more consistantly sharp...or shall i say more consistant focusing
less flare/ghosting, especially with bright lights at night
still serviced by canon
more pleasing finish

Thats not to say my 28-70 is not sharp. It does, however, miss more often than the copy of the 24-70 i use from time to time. i do like the color reproduction from my lens better. i kind of like that the zoom ring is not quite as tight as the 24-70, but the 24-70 does feel more solid because of it. they are both great lenses, and i wouldnt trade my 28-70 for a 24-70, however, it may still go for a trade to a 35mm 1.4L. havent made up my mind on that.

As to the above comments on the 70-200 f/4 vs 135 f/2 decision...go with the 135. you will find the f/4 more limiting than the lack of zoom, at least that will be the case for me when i trade. the 70-200 almost always stays in the bag for weddings for me. because of that i rent the 200 1.8 locally for weddings but will be getting the 135, as i cant afford the 200. the working distance of the 135 will be more pleasing. only reason i rent the 200 over the 135 is because my local calumet doesnt carry the 135 . but this paragraph is off topic and i apologize; just thought i would shed another opinion on the matter.

28-70 wide open:

Theres an ad in a local paper, someone selling a copy of this lens. Contemplating picking it up, but I'm kinda leaning towards the 16-35 2.8... just not sure which I should be looking at. Mark 1 or 2....

Well I gotta say, I was talking about getting rid of this lens a couple of months ago, but I have forced myself to pick it up more and I have fallen back in love!

I got a 28-70mm f/2.8L in a package deal that I bought and I've been thinking of selling it (it's in the classifieds) because I already have a 24-105mm f/4.0L IS but maybe I should go out and use it, who knows I might actually like it better than the 24-105 ?

Really ? I love my 24-105, it's my go to lens. I guess I'll have to put the 28-70 on and lock up the 24-105 for a while :)

the versatility and IS are nice on the 24-105, but i didnt like the f4, increased barrel distortion or contrast. seems that my 28-70 is contrastier, with better colors. of course those can be adjusted but its nice to see sooc. plus my 28-70 is sharper than the 3 105's ive used.

No complaints on the sharpness of my 24-105 :) But as soon as it stops raining and I get a day off I'll try out the 28-70 :)

touch soft towards 70mm (although in LR3.5 it reports only as 68mm) but superb otherwise. My first L glass and it definitely seems a keeper :)

Hey, chaps. Not to go too off-topic but maybe somebody can help me? The plastic cap of the AF on/off switch on mine broke and the part isn't available from Canon anymore. I contacted two other places and they don't have the part. Anyone has a source? The part number is cy1-2753-000.

Thanks.
