I just got surprised when discover some dirt on my picture.
think it is a dirt on my sensor, but after testing, taking some picture, the dirt is not there... but then I realize, when I set my lens to 1:1 magnification (I'm using EF 100mm macro USM), then the dirt is becomes visible.

I detach the lens from my camera, then take a peek from the front-end of the lens, then rotate the focusing ring, and when it goes to 1:1 magnification from infinity, the dirt (like a little hair) becomes more visible.

I wonder how could that happend? since the glasses inside the lens are isolated from the outside environment. how the dirt can go inside the lens? can anyone tell me about this things? could it be cleaned?

thanks a lot...

Camera lenses are sealed, but to different degrees. Some of the cheaper ones have simple sealing that can be easily defeated. A hair might possibly get in there. Some of the more expensive ones have better seals, and they will stand up better to rain and dust, but it is still possible for something to get in there.

If it is a dog hair, then get rid of the dog and buy a goldfish.

Might apply to human hair too, depending on whose it is.
