Guest shots are nothing compared to what you pros can achieve. I am so glad I don't do this for a living.
I'm so mad, I did have one nice shot, but the person sitting in front of me edged in at the last moment - a black type blur (a bottom corner of the bride's dress), I tried cloning out - but with white it's tough. So I resorted to a rather odd crop. I cannot get an 8 x 10, but it'll do a 5 x 7 I think (printed).
I love the moment of anticipation.

I like your shot! color and wb looks good...too bad you have to crop out of an 8x10. Yes, you can see the anticipation!

That's a nice shot :) I just wish those buggers who stand up there with them would get out of the way sometimes.

Agreed, registrars are the worst over here, we usually have 2 of them up there spoiling the shots ... compared to churches where quite often the minister/vicar moves out of the shot at the critical time just for us to get a nice shot.

Thanks for the feedback. There's basically nothing you can do about the officiant. So many of them are very unware of the elemental things. But you know, all of this lurking here has taught me ALOT, so hopefully when my own sons someday take the plunge (but hey - I still have alot of time before that!!). Even with the officiant in the background, I am still very happy with the shot - considering my lack of skill.
This young woman is someone I knew from when she very little and her parents are close friends. I was still, shocked that we were even invited and was very honored to attend.
She isn't my daughter and still I walked away with much emotion. I sometimes feel if I react this way to other people kids, how am I ever going to get through that when it's my own?? Ahh for another day...
One technical question though - this was my very first attempt at manual shooting at a serious occasion. Now usually I shoot sports. I took the drive mode from al servo (where is usually stays) to one-shoot mode. The place where we were had walls of sheer glass and windows and let tremendous light in, even for 6:30 p.m. Now I didn't want to use flash (partially due to how you pros feel) to disturb both the main photg and the proceedings in general.
I put the camera in 800 iso, and I had the 50 mm 1.4 lens on a 30 d. I didn't use the widest aperture available, I was at 3.2, because I felt if I opened as wide as possible that was risking OOF shots with a narrow DOF. There were stairs where the bridal procession decends into the main area of the room. I was trying to get the participants as they entered and got alot of blurry photos. Expose time is reading around 1/200. I'm pretty sure that I was getting a standard exposure reading when I took the shots, but I could be wrong.
Would I have been better off leaving the camera in al servo (the subjects were moving), or increasing the ISO (even though we were not in very dark conditions??).
I appreciate your feedback.

Its rare that one gets the chance to clone out someone with such ease but this was a simple 10 min job made all the more simple because there was an identical piece of background to clone from.
