Do all of you guys use manual mode to shoot the weddings? or do you use other modes such as P/AV etc.
Just wondering as I got married last weekend and a freind said the photographer's shots seemed underexposed (although i'm guessing he shot in raw);
Thanks Guys.

Manual only with flash or extremely rare cases of difficult light conditions but metered with an external light meter, otherwise Av / Tv / P mode.
The display on the back of the camera can be set dark too, I would never give a result due to this. Especially not whether it's sharp or not. ;)
If it shows histogram the photographer knows immediately whether under- / overexposed.
Just wait and see. Or is your informing friend keen in digital photography that he / she can qualify the results from such a small display? ;)
Keep in mind that most displays are quite dark from a certain angle.

thanks, informing friend sits on dpreview all the time, so he knows his histograms, I didn't actually ask as to whether he saw the histogram or not... so I'll have to wait for the results now!!! :) He took a few shots with my 30d/17-55/580ex combo, got some great shots.. :)

I typically use manual, although I've been known to use AV for outdoor weddings. :)

I use Green Box and fix everything in Mothership. Err Photoship. Oops I mean Photoshop.
Actually, I'm so good at Photoshop I don't even go to the wedding. I draw everything pixel by pixel, based on their high school prom photos.

I never shoot in P mode because you can only get JPGS and I want RAWs all the time. I shoot AV most of the time and TV for anything fast action. The day moves so quickly that shooting in Manual and adjusting all the time seems slow to me. It all depends on your comfort zone.

Manual ... the more I use it, the better I get at it.

30D lets you record RAW and RAW+JPG in P mode just as it does in the other "creative zone" modes .... is this a difference between the 30D and the 5D then ?
I shoot mainly in AV but am trying to use full Manual more when the conditiions arent changing so that my exposures are more consistent .. I use P sometimes when using flash.

You can shoot in RAW in P mode. I use manual, Av, P, & sometimes Tv, just depends on the lighting, how fast things are moving, what I want to accomplish, etc.

Only in the "green rectangle" mode you can't shoot RAW. This is the absolutely auto mode. P (Program mode) allows you RAW format.

i call it dummy mode!
i shoot mainly manual unless light conditions are changing too fast to keep up, then i go aperture priority. just watch to make sure it dont pick shutter speed faster then sync.

Manual and Av-- Tv is mostly useful for racing photos, I've found!
I disabled P on my camera... makes mode switching faster.
