Rather than hijack deltroid's thread below...

are my recent experimentations with selective color. Please be as blunt and opinionated as you like. Positive comments are welcome too, but not as educational.

Don't think colour has added anything to 1st shot, maybe a different colour would be worth a try?. I like the blue jeans in 2nd shot.

You've got some interesting shots but the conversion is a bit low in contrast and the color could be more saturated.
One has to ask, what's the purpose of selective color? And do you feel you've achieved that purpose?

I agree with Perspiring Photographer Dave. I'm not a fan of selective color to begin with, but if you're going to use it, there should be a reason, a thematic purpose. I don't see it with these. They'd both be interesting shots just as B&W.
By the way, if the 2nd shot were a jeans ad it'd be great. I assume it isn't, so then why the color jeans?

I think the second shot would have been better as simply B&W. I can't think of anything in that picture that would look okay with selective color.
But then again I'm biased since I'm not a fan of selective color.

Do you mean making some of the selected objects a different color, or just targeting a different part of the picture?

Just portraits for two young best friends. While doing the processing, I just thought it would be something fun that suited them - no dramatic statement, just a whim. They loved it.
the conversion is a bit low in contrast and the color could be more saturated. I kept the contrast a little higher on the subjects, and the saturation not too pronounced, out of personal taste. I'm glad of your opinion, though - I am curious what degree other people find most appealing.

I really like em. Especially the second shot. I'd be happy with the shots if I were them too.

Usually selective coloring is to draw attention to a certain item. Neither of these two pictures were a good canidate for selective coloring. Usually where you see it is when someone is holding a flower and you bring in the color of the flower. One of my favorites I saw was a small boy playing with a red truck. Everything was B&W and then there was the bright red truck it was very stricking.
All that said, I must say I really like picture #1. It would be better if it was all B&W the white of the dancers outfits in contrast to the dark sky is very dramatic

Love the second shot- adorable =D
But then again, I'm a fan of selective coloring. Not as fond of the first, but it would be a pretty hard one to selectively color, since they're all wearing white! (At least that's what it seems)
