Hello Guys, this is probably my last question before I goto my first shoot. Im supposed to take shots in low lit hotel. Customers has asked 15 portraits and 5 group fotos approx 15-20ppl.

For closeup upper halfbody 50mm @ 1.6
For B&G fullbody 50mm 2.8 or shall I change to 16-35 ? if so what setting shld I use on this lens. My other lens is 17-85 which I dont want to use for results are too soft.

Thankyou!

Definitely switch to the 16-35 for full body. It'll be just wide enough, I bet.

Don't be using 1.6 or 2.8 for group shots, though! Use a flash, bounce it, and stop down.

If the light's low then light the people.

Why's that?

in group shots with that DOF, too many people won't be standing exactly parallel to the lens/sensor, so most of them will be out of focus.

Why's that?Stop down for greater depth of field (DOF). When you do that, your low-light situation will cause you to need more light. That's why you will want to light them.

Well, here's two good reasons! *Ahem*...
