Let me know what you think of these.. my first time shooting sailboats.
These are little kids racing, and the only problem i think i ran into was a little camera shake using my long lens. (i forgot my monopod)

#1 is too busy with the houses and boats in the background. sky is a bit boring...
#2 is nice but the kid doesn't look that excited... you should also crop it a little to remove the other boat which is starting to come into the frame.
On the positive side, you did a great job with the exposure and they also look quite sharp. I like the reflections on the water (#2).

Any advice for making #1 appear less busy while staying true to the fact that thats where they sail and its not simply a composition error?

i really like the pattern in the top one, but you could've used a wider aperture to throw the background out of focus and thus bring the viewers attention to the boats instead of the rest of the scene.
the second one, the kid doesn't look to pleased and the lighting on his face isn't great either, so maybe that's not as much of a keeper.
