Hi
I'm having difficulty downloading the photos from my Ixus. It has been working fine for ages, but now when I switch on the camera it makes 3 beep noises on the computer and doesn't pop up any screen. If I try to connect to the camera through Zoombrowser it says 'Camera not detected'
ALso, everytime I switch on the camera it asks me to set the date and time - doesn't seem to be storing it.
Any ideas - please help as it's driving me mad - have tried uninstalling and reinstalling software - same problem...
Thanks

Not sure about your particular camera but most have an internal battery (like a watch battery) that stores date and time info. Might need to change that battery in your camera.

The IXUS 30, 40, 60 (SD200, SD300, SD600) have an internal rechargeable lithium battery to keep the date and other settings when main power is off. It re-charges when the main battery is inserted.
Read instructions about that on the IXUS30/40 User Guide pg. 1, pg. 12 and the last paragraph on pg.32
For the IXUS 60, read the framed note on pg. 4 of the Basic Camera User Guide.
I guess that the internal battery must be replaced if it does not hold charge, but there are no instructions to replace it at home.

Make sure you have the Windows Image Aquisition service, SSDP Discovery service, and Canon Access Library service turned on and set to start automatically when you turn on your computer. Go to start, run, type in "services.msc", and right click on the services you change the startup types.

Hi Alex H - I've managed to change SSDP Discovery service to Automatic, Windows Image Aquisition service was already set to Automatic and Canon Access Library service is not there - any suggestions please?
Thanks

Try reinstalling the Canon software that came on the disk. That's all I can think of.

Still nothing? Sometimes even plugging it into the other USB port will do it. I know this sounds retarded, but on old computers, it's funny that way.

Hi there
I've tried re-installing from disk but the same happens - also tried the other USB port but makes no difference - took the card to a camera shop and got them to download the photos to CD for me and it's bye bye Ixus - I decided after about 6 years of my Ixus 300 it's time to move on - my hubby is in Hong Kong on business and bringing back a nice Powershot S5 IS - can't wait!
Thanks everyone for all your help - I've only just found this great forum...

Had similar problem with S3. Got similar advice from members of this board and things worked for a while then failed again. Couldn't find info on Canon help site but did call Canon tech support on phone, they tried several things, finally had me download the latest version of Zoombrowser from web site and that worked.
Tech at Canon was great so you might consider calling them. He walked me through each step, took some time because I had to reboot computer several times. Tech guy was very patient, knowledgable and understanding

Hi!
An advice: forget Zoombrowser and similar trash programs including in canon (in every camera) pack. Just reinstall every program which are on the canon CD. Than restart your XP (I suppose you have XP SP2 or higher) and you will be able to download your pictures through Control Panel

What other USB devices are you using, or do you have connected at the same time? Added a scanner recently? But I suspect the crux of the problem is in the same thing that keeps your Ixus prompting you for time and date - when the CMOS memory in the camera loses its data, the link ("unique identifier") the computer's using to "recognize" it is gone; so it's not able to tell that it's the same Ixus 300 that it already knows about; it thinks it's some new and unknown device.
