Hi,
I was wondering how many of you use wedding fayres....and on average how much they cost? Do you get much business from them? And if a new wedding fayre started up that was a bit cheaper, but well organised would you give it ago?

I'm open to anything that may bring in the clients................. :)

We did a very small one at the start of this year at one of the local venues, one cake supplier, one dress supplier, one florist etc, we were the only photographer and they also did a little fashion show .... it was only a couple of hours in total which suited us because we had only done one wedding at that point so had virtually nothing to show people .... we talked to a load of people though and from that onme show I reckon we got about half a dozen bookings either directly or by people who saw us or booked us refering us to their friends.
We paid £90 to do this show which was discounted because we filled in for someone else who cancelled at the last minute, definitely worth while for us and we will hopefully get to do the same one again later this year (they do it twice yearly)
I can see that as we push our prices up we will have to do some bigger shows but that will be something different and fun for at least the first few so we look forward to that.
As well as speaking to clients we also made sure we go round every other supplier there and networked, got cards off em and gave them our cards etc, even gave some of them shots from the show, that was also worthwhile.

We did a load last year - we had bookings from all of them, but response was variable, and costs ranged from £95 to around £500-ish for large 2-day events. The most common price point being around £100-150 for a day.
This year we're doing just a few key large shows where we can have a big stand, and we're spending the rest on Google Adwords.
Finding a small fayre local to where you want to work can be handy, as there probably won't be many other photographers in attendance - but you need to be reasonably sure the organisers are going to get people through the door.

Don't forget to take into account other costs, like rent for stands, tables, plus framed prints, sample albums, etc. I've never done one because it sounds like too much work.

Is there anything that you felt could have been done better at any of the shows? Or something you think would really help get the people through the door??
