it seems like it should be real simple, but what i'm running into is mantaining aspect ratio. which gives me a finished product of 7x 10.5
i want to be able to put these in standard frames without stretching.
would resizing by pixel do what im asking.i would rather draw from someones experience than to keep experimenting
thanks jeff

What DPI are you using? Sometimes it doesn't matter, as the printer will use a completly different DPI than when you have used in Photoshop (for example, Fuji Frontier Systems & Noritsu Printers).

8 x 10 does not print directly, you will need to crop. If you say what software you are using it would help but in Photoshop you can enter the crop size you are aiming for in the dialog. Avoid re-sampling unless you have to, 8 x 10's will print just fine without any form of upsizing.

Or print 8x12's.

whoops...that totally flew past me when I replied in my earlier post:
Yes, either print at 8X12 and crop with cutters, or crop the image in photoshop to 8X10.

Or, just leave a white (or black, blue, red, etc) area around the pic on 8X10 paper. Sort of like a built in matt.

Since you can't print out a full 8x10 because of the Rebels ratio, you either have to print bigger or smaller, or crop. I am starting to make a mental habit out of over shooting my shots, just to gain the areas that I can crop out so I can print at 8x10, but keep the original composition I had in mind. Does that make any sense? I'm not the best at describing things :)

Good luck! After 30 years of filling the frame of 35mm slides, I have a big problem keeping an 8X10 crop in mind when I'm shooting!

I can see how that could happen after 30 years of filling frames of 35mm slides. For me, since I mainly print 8x10, and have only been in photography for a few years, it's just a habit I have developed.
