This was probably the hardest wedding I have ever done. It certainly didn't help that I felt like crap with either a cold or super allergies! It was brutally hot & humid, the ceremony was outside, everybody sweating like crazy. The bride & groom were extremely awkward and stiff. Everybody wanted pictures to just be over with.
I was not happy with what I got, but after looking at the images I am not sure they are as bad as I thought.
Here's a few

Sorry to hear that you had a hard time, Jeff! Make sure to take some time to rest.

#1 is cute, but I'd prefer to see the face of the little girl. It can still be considered a nice detail shot though.

#2. Too bad for the bride's hair in her face. The picture is a bit busy as well with diagonal lines in many angles. I think it would've been nicer with just the couple on the boat and doing the group somewhere else (but please don't show us a Titanic shot! :p)

#3 is nice. Too bad for the bride's hair in her face again. I'd also clone out the sign.

#4 and #5. I don't like the "Harbour West" impaling the B&G. Your horizon is a bit tilted in #4.

#6. Love the light and feel of this one. I just wished you had taken a step tot he left before taking it to avoid having masts too close to the B&G.

love the last one...the last time I tried a silhoutte I about went blind..I don't know what I was doing but I stred through the lens at the sun- DING DONG!

I like your desat look but I would bump the contrast just a bit. 5 looks a teeny flat.

Lovin' the boat group shot!

Sounds like the wedding i did on the same day. The bride did not smile the groom would not kiss his bride. Out door wedding the bride was in the sun the groom in the shade.

Nice shots tho to

You did a nice job for what you had to work with. They look your style. Don't be hard on yourself... I have learned that some people are just hard to work with. Thay can't relax. How can anyone relax when they are hot and sticky?

For feeling like "Crap" you did good.

I love the last one the best...

her hair seems to be in the way on a couple of them..not sure if you want to leave it or PP it out.

The first one is lovely also..

Can't wait to see a wedding on a great day, LOL

You did well all things considered. Sometimes I don't understand why people even hire a photographer if they don't even want their picture taken. Oh well...

That's a great grouping you have in 2. They way you do that always impresses me. Props for coming out of it with some great photos to show for!

Hey Jeff!

As usual:

1. Super cute, I'd give 'er a try in high-contrast B&W and see how it looks w/ a vingette. I like the concept though for sure!

2. Again, love your posing, but I feel this isn't your best. I would have liked to have seen you move over to the right maybe 10 feet to get rid of a bit of the gap between the B&G and the bride's maids on the right. Am liking the PP on this, but I wish you would clone out the Bride's hair in her face.

3. Awesome shot, love everything about it! Clone out that damn seagull though!

4. Love the pose, the PP and the composition, but I would have opted for a less centered shot. Would have been great if you hadn't of had the shrubs on the left in the shot and had the B&G off to the left hand side of the frame.

5. Love it! Great work on the pose and the PP. Looks like a much more natural dip than I've seen in the past!

6. This one knocks my socks off! I love it! I looooove the colors and the silhouette. I wish she didn't have a pole coming out of her head though! *Grabs clone brush and hands it to Jeff*

All in all, I don't think they're lacking at all Jeff. You did the best you could in a bad situation and came out on top! Great work!

Hey, I'm always willing ;) LOL

And that's why photography is so awesome! It's so subjective. What works for one person may or may not work for the next person. Either way, I know the couple will love these shots, they're outstanding!

Thanks for posting more Jeff :)

7. I looooove this photo! So amazing. Frame-ready for sure. This is my favorite of the bunch! No critiques at all on this one.

8. Awesome shot of the B&G. I love their expressions and the composition! They do look a LITTLE stiff, but I think you did a great job at making them look as natural as possible. Must be your charmingly good looks LOL

9. This is a great candid moment. They look so happy, and you can just feel the connection between them in this one. How did you light this? Is this just on-camera flash? That stupid piece of hair of hers! Keeps getting in the way!

And you call that a bad day? They look awesome to me!
#1 - precious
#2 - good composition...though I might move the two ladies on the right toward the left/back..they will look less imposing..and they will love you for that!
#3 - good tilt angle - a little hair in the face is perfect..after all, that was the atmosphere
#7 - great tilt angle and composition. My favorite one!

These are up to your usual high standard. In #6 i'd remove the thingy sticking out of her veil, should be pretty easy and it'll turn it from great to fantastic. That one deserves to be a 20x30".

Jeff, These are wonderful! The only thing that bugs me is her hair in her face, but thats not your fault. To bad you didn't have a pair of scissors and you could have helped her out with that issue:evil:

#8 is a killer shot, simple but perfectly executed...

I think they look great, number 3 is my favorite and that closeup of their faces that you posted later.

What kind of pp do you do? Do you just desaturate to get this color or is there a plug in?

Toogy
5th of August 2007 (Sun), 08:39
I just desaturate during raw conversion basically. Just bump saturation down to like -90 and then I up the white balance to something like 12000 to give it the extra look.
