I'm soooo excited!

I had a thread up for the last few days but didn't get too much of a response .

Anyway, I've been contacted by the marketing group of a hotel and marina in the Caribbean that is interested in 4-5 of my shots for their website and brochure. He said he would like a ballpark figure for a 1 year license of the 4-5 shots and they will be 1/8th or 1/4 of a page in size.

I get the impression he thinks I'm an amatuer, which I am, and probably hopes to pay me as one. I think some of my shots are quality but this would be the first time I've been paid for my work and I don't want to lose it by giving some outrageous ammount. Frankly, through research over the last few days I was almost taken back by the suggested prices for stock photography for commercial use.

I'm thinking perhaps $250 an image (x2 if it's used for both the web and a brochure). Too low? I kind of feel like due to their uniqueness (remote caribbean location) I should charge more but once again I don't want to lose the job.

I'm sure I'll get responses needing more info so just ask direct questions and I'll do my best fill you in.

Thank you so much in advance...these forums have done so much for my photography.

Chris

I guess it would help if you knew which pictures they want. He hasn't specified which ones he wants but here's my gallery:

You're much more likely to lose the deal by bidding too low than too high. Go with standard accepted rates; if they're serious, they'll pay them. This is commercial use we're talking about, after all.

Go with standard accepted rates; I agree. This guy is a pro & will expect you to quote standard rates. Then he'll try to get them for less. ;)
