I just ordered the upgrade from elements to photoshop cs. Any suggestions on the best approach to learning this program? Books-CD tutorials? Appreciate any info that might help.

Dunno which version you got, but my CS Premium version has a Video Workshop Training CD and enough guides, tutorials and info PDFs to keep you busy the rest of your life.

Wow Tom... Kind of a harsh response, don't you think?

You asked for suggestions as to the best approach. Within about 10 minutes, you got one, which seemed reasonable to me. It hasn't even been a day since you posted originally.

I scanned some of your other posts, and it seems that in most cases, you got quite a number of helpful responses to your questions. Indeed, I have found that just about everyone here tries to be helpful when they can. You should also keep in mind that PSCS is relatively new and many people don't have it and cannot provide any help.

Relax and give it a chance!

You're being a little hard on us, aren't you?

All those methods are good. You will get a manual with CS, and you can sit down and start at page 1 and just keep going till you get to the end. You might learn a lot, or you might not.

The simple fact is this: different things work well for different people while the same things won't work at all for others. I learn mainly by doing, so books like the Adobe 'Classroom in a Book' series work well for me. It allows you to follow along using the actual photos that are used as examples in the book.

What I would strongly recommend is going to a large bookstore and check the books out on your own. Believe it or not, style can be as important as substance, and you will find something you like. I would recommend staying away from anything that doesn't feel 'friendly' when you pick it up.

You will learn far more through the immersion method than from any book.

Oh, buy Photoshop magazine and save all the old issues. They're gold mines of information.

Now stop beating us up for not giving you the answer you were looking for.....go forth and read.

Maybe his aggressive response was because he won't be getting a manual with his version (ie it wasn't paid for).

My apologies Tom if this isn't the case, but I also found your response to be a bit harsh. I've been visiting these forums for nearly 2 months now and I have nothing but good to say about it and it's members. In fact i think the members here are the most courteous and helpful I have come across on any internet forum.

In any case, good luck with CS, and once you get hang of the basics there are a lot of more advanced tips and techniques on this site.

Actually Tom, if you have been using PSE2 for a while, your lead in to PSCS won't be at all difficult to keep on working as you have been, then you can expand into the other features and functions as you go. No sudden big learning curve, unless you think you've gotta get it all under control right away. Takes time and experience more than lots of reading.

I apologize for the no help comment-I was having a very bad day and was just surley. To those of you that responded to me in a positive way, even though I was being a jerk, my hat is off to you. You have to be good folks. To timmyquest you are a bigger s--t than me.
Thanks again,
Tom
