View Full Version : Officiant hired a 2nd photog....and some pics from Sunday's wedding!

I'll try to make this short...The ceremony had started, there was a guy w/a N%*&n something-or-other and kit lens, thinking he was just a guest/friend of the family, I was extremely polite to him (of course I would be polite anyway *wink*), and just figured he was like every other guest w/a big camera. Well, after the ceremony, the guy tells me he was hired by the officiant to get some pictures for their portfolio! He thanked me for not killing him, and I told him, with a smile of course, that I wouldn't as long as he didn't get in my way. lol Then, he started copying all my shots! I kneeled down to get a shot of a little girl playing, so he did the same, and he did this for the rest of the time they were there (luckily they didn't stay too long into the reception). I was upset that they didn't check with me beforehand, especially since it's against the terms and agreements in the contract, and the officiant was very rude to me. Anyway, I didn't want to upset the B&G, and I'm not sure I should say anything to them, but I appreciate the chance to rant!
I was there for 4 hours...I love the short and sweet ones. Here's some pics from the day...the bride was freakin' adorable! It was a beautiful place, but they gave me about 15mins for B&G shots, and the lighting kept going from flat, to very bright, but it was a good challenge for me. It was very difficult to choose which ones to post. I'll put some up on my BLOG (http://jessicawatsonphoto.blogspot.com), too. C&C welcome.
1.The bride...isn't she cute?!

5. Unfortunately, it completely clouded over when the ceremony started, so I didn't get this cool sky at that time, but I still like this one...

Oops, I meant to add this one instead of one of the reception shots...I knew I wasn't forgetting one. I loved her in it, but wasn't sure about what he's doing.

mmmm, they're beautiful! They really are. These are certainly the best I've seen from you. Yup, definitely a cut above your previous stuff! awesome work.
GREAT job on dealing with the other photographer. Instead of losing your cool and getting flustered, you came out and shot some AWESOME photographs. You're a true professional.
Composition and lighting is great in all except 9... I would have moved them more to the left. Otherwise, really really great stuff!!! :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Lloyd, I appreciate it!
About #9...did you say that because of the lighting or composition (or both)? I was getting ready for another shot when she did that, so it was completely unexpected...sorry for making excuses. Maybe a crop would help?
Thanks! :)

Awesome job Jess. Really did #2 (I like how you lead into them with the fence), #4, #7 & #8 are also really good.
I have to agree with Lloyd, I think this is some of the best stuff I've seen from you.

She is beautiful bride, but you captured her very well. I also love the reflection one. Cars can be distracting. But you did a great job with this one. The greens may be too much for my taste, but it works.

Lighting is fine... I might do a touch of highlight recovery though. I would have just made them less central. Central works for some shots, but I don't think it does for this one. But I can appreciate that it was an unexpected shot and moment. :)

Yeah, I agree about the central composition here, and I'll pull back the highlights a bit, thanks!

Thanks! The reflection one seemed too flat before, so I just used the LOTR everyday action and trashed the glowy layer, but I'll keep working on it. Also, my images tend to be too red at times, but I guess I went a little overboard the other way.

Thanks, Jeff! I couldn't decide between B&W or color for #2, what do you think? I just realized I didn't post any in B&W.

I think the colour works. I'd desaturate it myself, but I seem to be on a desaturate kick right now. lol

I really love these. It helps that the bride and groom looked so into the whole photography, really makes things turn out lovely. I really love 7 and 8, the lighting in them is my favorite, and the sunset in 7 makes all more romantic.
