Hello,
Have you seen this speed test result?
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6425
SanDisk Ultra II 512MB is number 5 in the list. Has anybody tried that with 10D? Amazon has a good price ($108) and I don't wanna miss it.

Thanks,

Hi, this is a very fast card indeed, what's interesting is that Galbraith's test measures differences between 256, 512, 1 and 2 Gig, bigger usually faster. Sandisk makes very reliable cards and $108 is a bargain!

I have this card in my 300D and it is noticeably quicker than a friend of mines Lexar 256 card. I think I payed about $125ish in November of last year for it....
I may order another one now. :D

I have a 10D and 2 SanDisk Ultra 512. I've tried other cards but I find SanDisk Ultra's and Extreme's to be the fastest for the price.

I too have the 512 Ultra II and use it not for the in-camera speed but for the download-in-cardreader speed.
The Amazon.com price is great, but they've been saying the cards will be in stock soon for over a month now.

I use the Sandisk Ultra II 256mg cards, and like them. $108 for a 512mg card sounds pretty good since the best price I've found them for locally was just under $200.
I paid $80 each for the 256's.

Yes, but you will hit a wall with the 10D as it can only write so fast. I am thinking that about 40X is all you want to go and much beyond that you are into the realm of paying 90% more for a 5% gain in speed.
In other news Apacer shoutld be releasing some 100X CF cards any day now, if not already.

However, the Lexar 40X card sells for $1 more than the Sandisk Ultra II. So, why pay more for a slower card - even if the there is only minimal benefit?
BTW, Buy.com has the Sandisk 512MB Ultra II for around $99 and free shipping. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10354252&loc=101&sp=1 However, Amazon.com has a deal until Aug 1, 04, that if one buys $250 in electronics they include a $50 certificate for future purchases. I'm thinking about ordering the Sandisk at $108 plus the soon to be available Tamron 70-300mm lens ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006I5WS/ref=wl_it_dp/104-8859428-0821542?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=I1MRC29XCCH6RA&col id=1MWUNH7D0YX7C ) at $146.
I just got my EOS Rebel Digital on Friday from buydig.com for $802, including shipping. I have yet to order a flashcard yet (a tribute to my self-control) until I determined which one makes the best sense.
My cousin's son, who is a pro photographer, suggested the 1GB. However, it is about twice as expensive as the 512MB (no economy of scale). My strategy is to get the 512MB now, as 2GB and 4GB models come out of the next few months, the price of the 1GB should fall to ~$100. Then I'll pick it up and use my $50 certificate.
Btw, this is my 1st post on your forum. Nice forum.

I have never used Sandisk, but there was a time when there were a lot of issues with them. It seems that they have since sorted it. You could dull the form and find out when it was. I believe it was about 6-9 months ago.
MTAtech,
I was referring to getting like an 80x or 100x card that is like way over the top. It was more about the limitations of the 10D and that it is the bottle neck more than anything else. It is like having a super screaming computer w/ no frills memory that becomes a major bottleneck and/or a 5400 RPM hd that is slow as molasses in Northern Quebec in winter.

No worries, I think maybe a little sarcasm oozed out and I didn't realise it at the time. I think we're now in the same sheet of music, right? :) The same limits apply to the 300D and the 64X card mentioned seems to me to be over the top.

has anyone seen this, http://www.spinics.net/lists/photo/msg11530.html, in short it says that canon does not support WA (write acceleration) and you don't have to buy big and expensive, i bought the ultra 2 60x write speed and will never use all the speed oh well, know for next time

LOL
Considering that you have 20% gain in writing speed from 4 speed card to 62 speed card...
I'd buy 62 speed just to be able to download images faster using a cardreader, cause right now it takes about 20 minutes to download 256 mb of pics through camera and usb 1 :x

Why don't you just get a reader that is USB 2.0 compatable? The reader is under $20 and the card to use it; if you don't have USB 2.0 slot is only about $25 or so. Downloads off the card a lot faster then.

I have to upgrade my whole pc. I bought it off a friend 6 months ago for 80 bucks. It's a p800, voodoo 5500, 128 ram...
But I'm getting by... no hurry. It's not like I have clients anxiously waiting for their pics or something.
