I am in the market for pro flash cards and am looking at buying a SanDisk Extreme III card for my 350D. Is this the latest and greatest card?
I just want to make sure I am buying the most current because im not very up to date or in the know about memory devices.
Thanks

I don't know what you mean by pro, some are perhaps more reliable than others, but CF media pretty much boils down to size and speed. You can check http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7699 for card specific performance with your camera.

Most cards (other than capacity) are categorized by their read/write speeds. As far as the write speed capability with the 350D is concerned, the Sandisk Ultra II's are about as fast as you're gonna get. Anything faster than those cards, you'll be wasting your money b/c the camera cannot write faster than what the Ultra II's are rated for.

The Extreme IV from SanDisk is their latest. I'm generally getting Extreme IIIs as they're at the better price point, not a lot higher than the Ultra IIs and with enough extras to make up the difference. It's important to note that if you shoot RAW, card speed makes more difference than if you only shoot JPEG. Also, speed in the camera isn't the only performance factor that matters; you've still got to get that data from the card to the computer, and card speed in a reader's much faster than speed in a camera (and the limiting factor's the car, not the reader). Your card's going to outlast your camera, too, so getting a faster card now means it won't choke your next camera, even if that's a few years down the line.

I have used nothing but SanDisk Ultra II since I had my XT and have not had any problems. I just started shootin RAW and I can tell there is a little lag time from taking last picture in a 3 frame burst, but nothing to concern about.
