I finally made a decision on a tripod and ball head. I ordered the Gitzo G-2220 Explorer tripod and the Bogen / Manfrotto 3413QR proball head. The head was only $48. I figured I could try this ball head first and then make a decision if I really need a $200 ball head (I shudder even thinking about it!)
This combo will weigh in at about 5.5 lbs so should be fairly easy to trek around. I would have gone for the Gitzo mountaineer tripod that Scott pushes so much :wink: but I couldn't justify the cost (yet!)
Oh yeah, B & H also has the 50mm 1.8 mkII back in stock for anyone interested.
