For what lens? Both will degrade the image quite a bit. You may also have to worry about autofocus - if either of these reports the max aperture back to the camera then they camera will refuse to autofocus if it's smaller than f/5.6. So you'd need to go with a 2.8 lens for a 300D or 10D.

I've also heard - from some pro wildlife guys - that the Keno appears and sounds clunky but works quite well. Granted these guys are putting them on lenses that run several thousand dollars....

keno with a lens that can get 2.8 might be ok
or should i just spend the money on a lens

I'm thinking you should bank it. You've got 50mm right now, so why get the 50mm 1.8? It's not *that* much better or different enough. And $270 won't get you much of a lens. A little more will get you something decent, so why not hold off a bit?

something to get me over 200mm or 300mm

If you need a wildlife lens, then maybe you should buy a wildlife lens.

I've used various wildlife lenses, and still I use teleconverters a lot. Kenko and Canon.

$280 will get you a Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6. Not a bad lens for the money from what I've heard. $415 will get you a 75-300 IS - I've heard that this is a bit soft, but IS is certainly nice. Neither would be considered a wildlife lens though - 300 is still a bit short for anything except larger animals or *very* stealthy people.

The 75-300 will also fit nicely with the 18-55 giving you 18-300mm, whereas the 100-300 will leave with a gap. That gap from 55-100 is fairly crucial to a lot of people since it's "the portrait range."

Really though, a teleconverter degrades very good lenses - I have a feeling that it will completely trash a mediocre lens.
