See http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=10319

I suppose it does not affect RAW-shooters much.

Hey Pekka, you a member over at SportsShooter?

There is a ton of good info posted on that site...

I wonder what the new firmware is going to achieve or fix.
Probably won't help the people complaining of the eye-pieces falling off.

Well,. I couldn't get much from that thread.. apperently some are complaining about a lack of "sharpness" .. sounds like a familiar broken record.. then there is a red issue.. this Ive heard discussed and seen pics...

Mainly it looks like there is some perceived AF issue that the Firmware is supposed to alleviate... this sound intriguing. Although for the life of me,. I can't imagine the AF being any better!

I wonder if I could install it into the 10D and turn it into a 1D Mk II....

J/K, (and sarcasm for the uninitiated) :D

Did you read the recent comment by the original poster that the firmware update takes 7-8 minutes (normally takes about 30 seconds)? That file must be huge and address a lot of issues.

some reported that when shooting a burst, some of the frames lost focus

Mine is at the Canon NJ repair center today (been there for 1 week) and I'm suppose to get it back tomorrow. It's there for a few things but the major reason is the lack of consistant accurate focus. The pictures were not just soft, many were just plain OOF. I sent it in with 2 lenses, that work wonderfully on other cameras, and they told me that they found something minor with the camera but that my lenses were "way off". I hope that all is well when I get my camera and lenses back. The camera and one of my lenses are coming tomorrow and the other lens when they finish it.

I'll check and see if I've got the new firmware when I get the camera. I just hope that it works as well as the 1D that I had. So far I miss that 1D.

Maybe it just uploads new versions of Microsoft C++ libraries? :)

I had a similar problem to Greg with my mk2 of very soft images, which basically looked out of focus, i covered a motor racing meeting for a magazine and i really struggled to get six useable images out of the 700 i took :( after sending it back to cps twice, it is better than my old 1D, CPS said they tweaked the AF so i can see were the firware update may fit in.

I like to hear that! "Better than my old 1D" My old 1D was beautiful and sharp. If this mkII can be better then I'll love it!!!

LMAO !!!!!
By the way, what platform is the 1D MkII running on? I was surprised to find that the 10D and 300D are operating under DOS.

Chuck Westfall has stated on Rob Galbraith's forum that the AF system of the Mark II will not be adjusted by firmware. They don't feel that there is any problem overall with the AF system.

Don't always believe everything that Chuck says

He also once said that the 1D didn't have a banding problem about a week before Canon announced a fix for the banding problem :o :o

Grain of salt???

The news is apparantly an official release from Canon and not Chuck's personal opinion.
