I have the "sharpness" parameter set to the center default position. Has anyone experimented with a higher sharpness setting on the D30? Since D30 images are traditionally a little soft anyway, does this help get them sharper or does it just produce "jaggies" or other unwanted artifacts?

I'm talking about jpg images here not the RAW format. Are RAW format pics generally sharper than the same jpg after you process them in photoshop?

They can be. Try http://photography-on-the.net/D30/linear/ if that makes a difference in your view.

Bruce,

Unless you have a compelling reason to shoot JPG (need to shoot as fast as possible, don't have time to post-process images on the PC), then I think you will get the best quality images from your D30 by shooting raw.

Shoot raw and convert to linear TIFF and then process using Pekka's LinearSharpen as he has suggested. You _will_ see the difference.
