canon sd30 possible problem? (1)

when i turn my camera to "portrait" mode the only thing you can then adjust is the "exposure"...

isnt the portrait mode suppost to blur out the surrounding items in the background of the picture?

mine just takes a normal photo like its in normal mode ?????
and suggestions please?

The only way that a camera can blur out the background is to use a large aperture, which reduces the depth of field, thus leaving everything out of focus forward or backward from the plane of focus.

Once that mode takes over setting the aperture, the only remaining controls that affect exposure are shutter speed (perhaps that is what you are calling "exposure"), and the ISO setting.

Your camera takes over setting the ISO in Portrait Mode.
