So my wife and I are headed for a blissful two weeks in Italy, including one week in Rome -- and I am struggling to decide what lenses and support to bring -- never been to Italy.

-- Does anyone have experience shooting a lot of indoor and outdoor architecture while on vacation in Rome?

-- To get good architecture shots indoors and out, I will probably need to carry my 24mm tilt-shift, my 16-35 and maybe also my 24-70. I assume that anything longer will be useless? Should I leave the tilt-shift at home?

-- How about a monopod? It may be better suited then a tripod for shooting art in museums and churches, etc. Or is a tripod better for this?

As always, thanks to all for any useful advice that anyone has the time and/or inclination to provide!

If you want to capture a shot of the Pope or some distant architectural feature, you'll need a long lens. That 100-400 would do it. That'd be four lenses and that's quite a bit to carry around. I'm thinking that your wife is going to want to see something different every day. That means you're going to have to plan ahead on each day's trip "Hmmm, what am I going to capture today?" There'll be few chances to go back with the right lens because your wife is going to be planning the next day's events.

I'd hate to do Rome with 24mm at the bottom end of my range. :( There's too much to see and the vistas are fantastic.
