View Full Version : Is Canon Warranty Transferable

I have been using a D30 since back in January. It died on me in the middle of shooting some gymnastic team photos two weeks ago :-(
I am considering getting a new or used 1D to use as my main camera and use the D30 as my backup after it is fixed.
Can anyone tell me if the Canon warranty is transferrable if I buy a used 1D? I would not want to have one that is not under warranty especially considering what just happened with my 5 month old D30.
Thanks for any help.
Darrell

Hi Darrell
I've just read on the Fred Miranda site that the US/Canada warranty is not transferrable. I guess you should check with Canon before you commit yourself.

I contacted Canon via e-mail regarding my Canon D30 and they told me the warrenty could not be transferred.

Probably not officially - but in practice.... more than likely
Canon is known for having liberal warranty policies. e.g. It has been widely discussed that Canon will service grey import D30's with a receipt (since teh D30 is exactly the same globally)
All Canon looks for is proof of purchase so if you have the receipt I would think you are OK. You could say that the name on the receipt is a relative and it was a present (if you are asked)
I don't think you will have a problem...
