I just got the EOS Drebel and I love it.
Check out my first macro shot which was taken at a few inches away.

What kind of lens can I get that will give me a closer shot but enable me to take the picture at say 2 feet away?Is this possible? I want to take macro shots of my inhabitants in my fish tank but the only way I can get this close is if the object is right at the glass.

Also, I'm sure that this is not a good picture. What is wrong with it and what can be done to take a better shot?

Oh and one more- The camera has a 'macro' setting. Does this actually do something? And if so what does it do. I did not notice one bit of difference.

Thanks,

What's wrong with it?
Most likely you were too close (check the minimum focusing distance for your camera)

If you want macros, then get a macro lens.

the 100mm f/2.8 macro will get you close
the 180mm f/3.5 macro will get you even closer (for more money).

Congratulations on your purchase
