Practice and qualifying from Friday. Another first for me. Never shot bikes before, and just my second time at the track. I used the IRL as a warmup. Bikes are a lot smaller :)

Nice shots. Good catch on the crash sequence. Looks like the end of a high side.

Nice shots. Good catch on the crash sequence. Looks like the end of a high side.

Thanks. Wish I had remembered to kick up the shutter speed for the crash sequence. Blurred the hell out of it.

A couple more from today's race:

Really nice work. Your "highside" sequence makes my bones hurt just looking at it...ouch!

I love these, great sense of speed in all of them. Nice sequence with the crash also.

Nice shots!!

Did you use the 300 f2.8L IS or the 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS. I've been thinking about getting the 100-400 F4.5-5.6L.

TIA

Very Nice JC, may i ask what lens you use to make such photos? I am still learning.

Hey thanks all. I had a great time getting these captures. I wish they had raced Sunday, well, a real race, not the truncated last minute thing they pulled off.

Lens questions: I used a 100-400mm L. I used my 300 f/2.8 & 70-200 f/2.8 to shoot IRL a couple weeks ago(my first moto-sport shoot), and thought the 100-400mm would be better suited. Turns out bikes are much smaller, so I was between 300mm & 400mm most of the day, and longer wouldn't have hurt. I was still happy with the results. f/5.6 is plenty fast for slow shutter-speed panning. And, I didn't have to change lenses all day. I may be selling my 300 f/2.8 since I rarely need the speed when I'm at 300-420mm.
EXIF is available in the larger version of the images if you want all the specifics.
