lying in the park and shooting any bug that came my way - not many as it happens and all pretty small.
350D & MPE65 minus tripod collar, MR14EX with tissue over heads.

Some sort of Seed bug about 4mm on my ground sheet.

thanks for comments, i've been on the lookout for a Thunderfly (they come out before storms) but didnt appreciate from the insect poster on my door just how small they are,Thor would not be impressed.

Hiya RM

Excellent series of shots, love that Thunder Fly but as the others have said that Springtail is superb, it's Eye's remind me of the Blackcurrant Rowntrees Fruit Gums.

Ah this takes me back

Do they still sell them in the box, brings back memories? Woodlice eyes are similar - not compound but a collection of simple ocelli.

I think we're all going with the springtail, though they're all excellent.

Good to see a close-up of the thunderfly. I'm sure most of us have been plagued by them at some time or other. :D

Springtail turned out to be a new one for my collection - 26th no less, Sminthurus viridis

Sminthurus viridis
New for your collection!
A juvenile specimen. Adults may become 3mm.
Juvenile S. viridis may be confused with Deuterosminthurus pallipes adults. But note the following differences:
1. overall colour impression is more greenish then yellowish
2. the apices of the antennae are reddish
3. when the dorsum is in focus, S. viridis has a patchy colour pattern while D. pallipes is uniform yellow in colour.

Like the last one, very sharp, beautyfull details of that bug, and great background.
Congrats ;-)

maybe you are spending too much time hunting Parasitic wasps - have to admit they are splendid little critters up close.
Sciaitica is still very sore, awaiting referal to specialist for MRI when hopefully at least i'll have a definite cause (be interesting to see if osteo is correct). Watch your posture on the low level shots - probably not the best hobby for dodgey backs.
