Just out of interest, how many of you guys have had stuff professionally published, i.e magazines, books, etc.

Please elaborate as much or as little as you choose. How you went about getting the work published would also be great.

Thanks all

Ya know, I don't know... hehe. I have done some shooting for the CA dept. of fish and game for publications, but they don't tell me if it's used or not.

Been published about 7 or 8 times, but in internal/customer glossy mags. for work and a couple for very specialist meteorological magazines. :)

Cheers

I have been published a few times. I don't think it counts entirely though as the places I have been published is through a non-profit magazine that I am a board member and co-originator of. It's not that the images were used for filler, but were specific to the articles at hand.

So, I guess I have taken the role of staff photographer when needed. That and I am co-authoring a graphic novel, using only photos, that is a serial in the magazine.

Have been employed to do various photo shoots. But in all cases I've known the people before hand. Does that count?

I've had my work published in a few local areas here:

- local newspaper
- Cedar Point brochure(s)
- Jet Express boat shuttle

I've had a couple pictures published in trade publications and enthusiast newsletters, but never in anything that was intended for general distribution. Don't expect I ever will be, either.

The only intellectually honest answer for me is 'No.'

I have a pic taken in May or Jun, 97 that made the local paper back home. That was about my 5 min of glory.

Getting published is the easy part. Getting paid for it is the hard part and, that is the part that counts!

This is so true...
I've had quite a few photos published in the local paper, but that's because I was doing an internship there! Think they only paid me for one pic and that was because I was doing it as a freelancer (the internship had finished).

Hm, if I got paid in form of a free CD from my friend for the pics I shot of her, does that count?

You have that right! I once did a job for a guy in a GM subsidiary. Saved them $50K & was paid in a week! Did a repeat a week later, except his boss got involved & insisted that the check come from the home office, which it did... 5 months later!

EoSD30, you have a camera that predicts the weather? Have you ever tried to see what it can do with race horses? LOL

I've been published - just no my photos! :)

I do some freelance writing and have been working for a Canandian paper for a while. Nothing would be better than to have a photo published though!
