Been out playing with my new camera and would appreciate thoughts on the following photos. I have two concerns.

1. Depth of field is really tight on the first photo which, I beleive, works nicely with the background, but spoils the text somewhat. I loosened it somewhat on the second does that help?

2. Are they any good? They look really good when viewed full size on my desktop, but look really ordinary when I shrunk them down to post here.

Cheers,

BB

Have tried a new frame. Does this help?

I prefer the black frame, but that's a personal preference :)

Of the two shots I actually prefer the first one. Mostly because of the background. It's much smoother than in the second. But also because of the natural curve away from the camera. One could argue that if you wanted all the text in focus, then shoot it straight on.

Cheers Dave, the first is my favorite as well.

Shall ignore the 'helpful' comment re: getting the text in focus. :D

I like it. It's a detail of a larger object. So I'm disoriented by seeing the Latin letters go way out of focus. Thus I like better the shot at aperture=7.1. The overall coloration is very interesting as are the background textures. I prefer the white frame which helps bring the dark image into the light.

What means "Quaerenti Ostium" -- seeking holes? wanting an opening? Sounds like a Latin personal pages add. :)

I have no idea what it means, but I promise I'm not soliciting!
