Close focus ?

Hi im new to phtography and i have a canon a80. When i try and take a picture of something really close to the lens ie nearly touching it i have to select manual focus, that makes the focus a bit better but not 100%. Is this because im to close to the object and the lens is not powerful enough or is there another setting i can select ?

Read your manual for how close your camera lens can be to an object before it can't focus.

Likley something like two inches (not nearly touching) for wide angle and something like 18 inches (no were near touching) for telephoto mode.

If you can't focus, back off.
