Awesome camera in my opinion, just wondering what you would give up for it. Those who have one can go fly a kite!

I'd be willing to give my entire system, which isn't much at the moment.

I'd be willing to give up about $ 4,495.95
...........if i had it

otherwise I guess I would sell my Nissan Altima for an older model to pay for that beast.

Drive an average car and shoot with the ferrari of Cameras :)

I have not one, but two klondike bars. The ball is in your court.

Now I'm thinkin that my response was really stoopid.

Testicle sounds about right

I'm waiting for a guy in a dark trenchcoat to come up to me and say,
"How much you give me for this?" to which I'd reply, "Well, it's not really
a very good camera, but my son told me he wants one for his birthday; so,
I'll give you a hundred bucks for it." To which the trencoat says, "Sold!"

6 pints out with your mates - £30
Kebab on the way home - £5
Few tinnies out of the fridge when you get home - £10
Go on the Internet with your Mastercard and buy a MarkII while under the influence of fermented beverage - Priceless.

Thats how I bought my 10D and 100-400L so it is bound to happen with a MKII sooner or later.

That's scary...

Sub the kebab for a Pizza

Sub the tinnies in the fridge for the Jack Daniels in the cupboard

Then you get my story!

Given that I was willing to pay $3500 on the day it came out, but not the $4500 it did come out for I can safely say greater then 3500, but less then 4500. On th day it came out my usual desire to get latest greatest, might have gotten me to 4k, but time has passed. I would say right now between 3k and 3.5k at most.

In the mean time I continue to save for a 1Ds or it's replacement in the fall. I hope they keep the price under 8k for the expected upgrade, because if it goes at or over 10k I will be going with the Kodak SLRc, despite its limitations. I can live with a slower frame rate and noise, but I really want a FF camera. I want to be able to have wide-angle and fisheye capability.

Now if they come up with a 10D replacement that has FF capability, that will be all I need. I have a sneeking suspicion (the universe with its touch of humor) that the 10D w/FF will be announced just after I get the 1DsM2.

As long as the full frame sensor remains the 'holy grail' of DSLR photography, it's going to be a long long time before anyone brings it out at anywhere near the consumer level. They're making too much money selling the 'pro' models to gullible people like me who are convinced that bigger is better, not just with sensors.

Besides, as sensors continue to improve, the rationalization and clamor for the larger versions will gradually die down. I've chosen to deal with the crop factor through the optics I've purchased. I don't need anything wider than 16mm and doubt I ever will, so it's really hard to imagine getting very excited about future model releases that don't break some new significant ground in camera performance.

Like maybe a built-in coffee maker or something.

How about a full frame sensor, 16 megapixels, and 8.5 fps shooting in RAW? And that too for $4500. Can you imagine the groans we'll be hearing if Canon puts something like that out within the next 24 months? :D

Not groans but all out coup d'etat! Some might start playing for "the other team" aka N*k*n!

As sensors go, bigger really is better, at least to a point. I am much happier with my 1.6X sensor at 6.3 mpx than I would be with the 8.2 mpx 2/3" sensor in the Pro-1. I am one to think that the pixel density of the 10D and DigiReb is pretty close to optimum, being small enough to exploit better glass, but large enough to produce low noise. I'd just like to get a 1.3X size at some point, rather than the 1.6. We can always crop our output and get the same effect of the smaller sensor, but I haven't found a way yet to crop an image so as to provide a wider field of view.

Besides, as sensors continue to improve, the rationalization and clamor for the larger versions will gradually die down. I've chosen to deal with the crop factor through the optics I've purchased. Honestly, I think that with the smaller sensors, at least, they are pretty much up against the wall as far as improvements are concerned. IIRC, at least one poster here did a good job of explaining how the pixel pitch of smaller sensors (the Pro-1 was the item in question) is fast approaching the wavelength of th light that it is designed to detect. That's a physical limitation that won't go away, and it explains part of how larger pixel sensors can produce lower-noise images at higher ISO settings. Smaller sensors also don't give the user as much ability to tighten DOF (though I could argue that my 10D does adequately with this).

BTW, I think you'll be happy to know that I've been experimenting with my Elan II and my Mr. Coffee coffee maker. I'm pretty close to perfecting the method of using water in the glass coffee pot as a means of image stabilization. I'm also working on a coffee blend that will serve as a 3-stop neutral-density filter. Plus, I've already harnessed the coffee filter as an automatic white balance mechanism.

Wait 'till you see the new product!

Pins and Needles? Be careful, that's part of my patented process to produce sharper images through HDHD* coffeepot glass.

*HDHD = High Density Heavy Duty glass - similar to that used in older Coke bottles.
