I want to purchase a DRebel. I was thinking of buying online since you can get the camera for about $100 less plus not have to pay taxes which could easily be another $100. However, my problem is that I feel like I would want to get some type of extended warranty (I know some people don't like them, but I like the piece of mind) but it seems like online stores do not over them. What are people doing or do you just not worry about the extended warraynty?

Thanks,
Big Worm

You can get an extended warranty from another dealer, like B&H. Just be sure that if you get an extended warranty, that you follow the registration directions carefully. Mack warranties must be registered within 30 days of purchasing the item.

Most reputable online stores off MACK Extended Warranties, which store in particular were you looking at? If not, call them up and talk to a salesperson about an extended warranty.

I was looking at NewEgg.com or Buy.com

Don't forget to check their reseller ratings!

There should be some threads in the forum on the issue ... do a board search.

Best regards,

I did some searching, and I keep coming up with info about Mack warranties. Question, can you buy those warranties from a different place that you bought the camera?

got mine from onecall.com

they're ratings are very good--might even be better than some listed above. but you might as well wait for the july 4th sales weekend... just an assumption of major sales happening during big holidays.

i got mine for ~$818 flat shipped to CA w/ no tax. i also asked if i have to buy the extended warranty, they said that i have 3-months after the sales date to add it on to my purchase. thats 90 days to save up $99 for a 3-year extended warranty. not only that, if you take really good care of your equipment (ie 300D), you can get 50% back (ie. 50% of $99) after the 3-years. just read on at their site for more details, or contact them--they're helpful.

i'ma stop talking now, i just want to express how happy i am to find another online store that dont deal BS (besides newegg.com) =p

You might check your local Canon site. In the UK they are offering extended warranties when you register equipment with them.

Has anybody ever done this? Buy a camera from one retailer and then buy the warranty from another one?

I have gone to the MACK CAMERA web site www.mackcam.com (http://www.mackcam.com/) and look up a dealer on there list and get a warranty from them. They will be happy just to sell you the warranty.

Just a question...............

If your buying on-line you are probably using a credit card. Does your CC company offer extended warranties of you use them to purchase. Both my cards will double manufacturers warrantee, and i have made a claim through them.

Just another route to extend the warranty period for no charge.

Yes, but you must do it within the time limit. It is sometimes cheaper, but I did it because I neglected to do it with purchase. If you check with Mack they list authorized dealers.

There are a couple retailers who sell Mack warranties a fair bit cheaper than others. www.compuplus.com is one of them. I forgot the other.

You have 30 days after purchase to buy the warranty.

Skip the online warranty and purchase some insurance on it. My camera and 55-250mm would be about $30 a year and that covers everything!!! Except..manufacturer defects and things like that. It does cover theft which is a big plus and it's with a $0 deductible!!! :)..I still need to purchase this..wish I knew I could do this before I bought that darn extended warranty through the store I bought my camera from.
