Thanks for the comment :) It was my first time trying panning with such fast subjects and only got 2 or 3 keepers out of the many that I tried to take :(

ToFuBoy, I hear ya, i spent a day in Bay City Michigan, shot about 300 shots and have a couple keepers. But hey gotta keep trying right? I learned alot and i am sure i'll get 10 keepers next time! By the way got some great shots in your web site.

Great series...the perspective in the last shot is perfect as it really shows how sleek those boats really are.

Rookie question here: what do you mean by panning? I am guessing that you are following the subject with your camera thus the background blurs.

Correct. Use a 'slow' shutter speed and follow the subject as you take the photo. See this thread for a lot of examples:

The shutter speed needed to blur the surroundings depends on how fast the subject is moving and how far away you are from the subject. I was using 1/60s - 1/50s for my shots, but just experiment... and be prepared to get a lot of blurry photos. I only got a few keepers out of a hundred or so shots :(

You did a great job with the panning shots... Tomorrow I'm shooting the Hampton Cup Regatta I've got to try that
