Following on from KennyG's post, here's a short sequence I captured at the weekend during the Men's National Autograss Championship. Driver was fine and was out of the car before the marshalls and medical team got to him.

Each one is a single shot rather than a burst, and were taken with a 1D mk II + Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 lens. I'd just taken a picture of the car leaving the first frame, hence I missed the beginning of the roll :(.

Cheers,

Simon.

Nice sequence Simon. More proof that you don't need to just jam the shutter release to get a good set like this.

I'm beginning to wonder if certain people on this forum are carrying

a) A large magnet.

b) a pork pie / meat & pastry product of a similar ilk.

or

c) Both of the above.

1 of those is self-explanitory but i'm sure those in the know will understand b) :D

Who's the guy with the green head in the background of the first shot!!! In line with the end of the exhaust - weird...

Geoff, you must know my reputation by now. I have seen marshals visibly pale when I approach and the language turn colourful advising me to find somewhere else to stand. My record is moving through 8 positions at Oulton during the day and having crashes at 7 of them. No pork pies, just a very big white magnet :)

Like Simon I don't use burst mode. I hate the machine gun approach. I once asked a tog standing along side me who did it with every shot if his camera had a fault with the shutter! Great for podium shots where lots of flashes are going off so you can reduce the risk of nasty exposure problems.

Looks like you had a good day Simon, lots of sun block I hope?

Puts a new twist on the word 'Pick Up' :)

Pic 3 is interesting. On its own it looks like the car was blown up or on a pogo stick :)

Cracking day Ken. Plenty of sun block was used, and I found something else out as well. The dust around Thornborough sticks very readily to sun block. I was wondering why I was getting very strange looks as I drove back up the A19 on Sunday night. It was only when I got in and looked in the mirror that I realised I looked like I'd been down a pit all day :o.

Cheers,

Simon.

I like the fans in the background. On the first pic no one is even looking at the rollover. It takes several frames before people realize that an accident is in progress. Even in 3 most fans have not turned to look but in four most have. I really like this series.
