I spent all weekend at Thornborough in North Yorkshire for the 2007 Men's National Autograss Championship. It was and will be the best event I attend all year. Real grass roots motorsport, with a big emphasis on familly involvement means it is a very friendly sport to photograph.

It will also probably be the biggest event I go to as well. Four hundred drivers (the top 40 in each class of car and there are 10 classes) from across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland were taking part, with 150 races across the weekend and an estimated 8,000 spectators gave a fantastic atmosphere. Anyway, enough waffle, on to some photographs from the 2 days of racing.

#1 York's Mark Brooks' eyes show the intense concentration required to pilot his Class 10 Special around the track.

#2 The Class 4 Fiat of Duane 'Dibbley' (any Red Dwarf Fans out there?) Walker lifts a wheel cornering.

#3 It got a bit dusty at times to say the least!

#4 Drifting Class 7 Autograss style!

#5 and Class 9 Special Style..

#6 Wider view of the venue and the first lap of one of the Class 7 'Super Saloon' races.

#7 More drifting and dust....you might detect a theme here! LOL

#8 I'll finish with the car awarded the 'best presented saloon car', an immaculate Class 5 Mini.

All were taken with a Canon 1D mk II + Sigma 120-300 f2.8.

As usual, any comments or feedback is most appreciated.

There's a full gallery from the weekend on my website for those that are interested.

Thanks Alan. The dust is always a problem, but the wind direction on Saturday in partiicular meant I got covered everytime the cars came passed. My eyes were sore by the time I got home.

Cheers,

Simon.

Thanks Geoff.

Definately worth a look some time Geoff. You won't be disappointed, even though the club events are much smaller affairs.

Simon.

Great shots, but I do love number 1.
Isn't it wonderful when one can get the eyes into the shot. They just tell so much.
