i like how it turned out with me [i used a timer!] fitting under the arch of the trees in the background. i also like the lighting on the ground and how the sun was at my back. shutter speed could have been faster though and there is some grain.

Am I reading you correctly. You took a picture of yourself doing a wheelie on a bike using a timer? And you managed to get yourself in the frame? What's your secret? You've got a future in action photography. :) :)
Why the B+W? Looks like a nice neighborhood with good background foliage.
The fast shutter speed just about stops you but also freezes the water in the background which detracts from the focal point of the shot.
Looking forward to your next real action shots. Get in tight and keep the shutter speeds high.

like the flip flops? and the safety helmet? :]
manuals in the parking lot outside my door don't require much safety gear.

pretty lucky eh? it was my first and only attempt. i just set it to 10 seconds and watched the flickering speed of the light to get my timing.
i have it in black and white because that's pretty much the only way i work and i wanted to be able to bring out the contrasts more.
er.. there's no water in this image. you might be mistaking the ivy in the background for liquid?

Lucky shot!!!
I think whats most impressive with this photo is that you were in the frame with your bike up in the air right when your self time went off :-)
AND IT WAS YOUR FIRST TRY!!!
I would buy a lottery ticket now.

it was lucky, but it was the shot i was going for and i would have kept trying until i got it ;]. the trick is called a manual and it's like a wheelie but you aren't pedalling, just rolling on the rear tire and balancing. so i looked at the blinking light and counted the # of seconds that were going by while i was setting up, then did a manual across the area that would be in the frame. i think the luck part is how my placement in the shot looks intentional, not just the fact that i made it in the frame.

That is one hell of a self portrait. You should do more stuff like that and post it.

For some reason, I had the urge to open it in photoshop and put a red tint (variations) on it.
