The tricky part of this lens has been availablility. The price is just about right. If they have them, you're okay.

Samy's sells it for that price. I don't know if there's one near you or not---they do have a store in Santa Ana.

Hmmmm.

I'm not saying a 20% price difference on a Canon lens is nothing to be taken very seriously ...

... but maybe the time it took you to make up this thread cost more than the 15$ you'll eventually save when you've evaluated all the options ...

Best regards,
Andy

I just bought the EF 50 f/1.8 II today in a local shop here (Rotterdam, The Netherlands).

You'll probably laugh when you read what I paid for it. € 129 (US$ 155). That's more than twice the normal price in the USA. Well, sadly that's how it is here. :( The price tag even said € 159 (US$ 190), an even more ridiculous price...

It's a nice little lens - very small and light, but it looks like a cheap plastic toy with its plastic lens mount.

Gee, I'm still thinking about buying the 10D, so I'm pretty confused about this lens/price comparison. The best local price in Auckland New Zealand for the EF 50mm F1.8 II is NZ$196.50, or about US$122, including taxes.
And what's a EF 50mm F1.4 USM? At NZ$789.00 (US$489) it must be pretty special. I'm happy for someone to direct me to another discussion of this if it has already been covered...
