I haven't had any first hand experience with this, but i have read some articles saying that memory was safe in any scans. It would be comparable to walking through a metal detector and it erasing your palm pilot or laptop. From what I've heard it doesn't happen.

None of the security equipment at the airport will effect your CF cards. Now the security equipment operators, that's another story. :)

Seriously, it won't/can't hurt it. Just think of how many business people fly a commuter flight daily with their laptop and have it and their palm pilot scanned twice a day. If there was any chance of problem, don't you think you would hear a lot more about it?

Don't worry about it. Instead, worry about someone stealing your camera when it comes out of the scanner. I've had to yell at people SO many times who "accidently" start to reach for things in MY bin. I hate it when the X-ray operators get ahead of the metal dector operators, and all of my electronics comes out the end three people before me. I don't mind the operators "checking" my gear, but I get mad when $15,000 worth of equipment gets out of my sight for long.

When I travel, I usually have a laptop - a pda - at least one camera - a md player - a cellphone, I've never had a single problem as a result of the security scan. If I'm going specifically to shoot, I'll have even more stuff with me -- several times I've even had to buy two tickets so I can bring all the expensive stuff on as carry on.

I agree with Jasper - not had a problem with CF cards or PC going through airport scanners. I would also suggest not letting go of your bags for the x-ray machine until the way ahead is clear. Most operators understand why you are doing this.

I travel frequently with a stealth back pack loaded with a lap top, D30, G2 back up, lenses, flash, microdrives, cell phone, extra batteries and chargers for everything. The lap top is put in a plastic bin everything else stays in the back pack and scanned. Only travel with digital equipment, there is a lot less pain than handing over your film & 1V for inspection. Enjoy your trip.
