retaining exif information when cropping / editing?

obviously, im doing something wrong...

whenever i crop or resize my images in photoshop, i lose my exif data. Could someone explain the process to me for retaining the info while editing photos?

Cropping and resizing should not eliminate the EXIF data. The data is most likely stripped when you use Save for Web. Use Save As or Image Ready instead.

Thanks for asking the question. I have been lurking here to see what the answer is because I was wondering the same thing, but never spending any effort to figure out why I was losing the EXIF data when saving for the web.

Do NOT use the "Save for web" in PhotoShop or ImageReady. Just use "Save as" however, even you use save as, some exif information will lost. I don't know why.

Why not Image Ready? Works great for me and I can get a more accurate estimate of file size compared to Save As.
