Took some steelband photos this weekend also. Other pics in Pople Forum. I have a friend that I grew up with that plays in this band and the only time I get to catch up with him is after their set.
This is a free concert, at an outdoor stage, there's 100s of people with cameras, some with video cameras. I start shooting from the back and eventually I walk halfway up the aisle and kneel to shoot some more.
The security guard calmly approaches me and ask if I have a press pass, if not I can't take pictures. I point out to him that they're hundreds of camers. His reply is that mine is a professional camera. Meanwhile there's a guy with a D2?? and 300mm VR sitting about 3 rows from where I'm kneeling. I must point out he was cool about the whole process, told me where to get the pass and let me shoot some more of my friend.
The funny part is is my friend in the band knew nothing about this and was stunned when I told him. The people at the info booth were shocked when I asked for a press pass and told them the story. Maybe it was my white lens, 70-200 that I was using.
