Latest from Metz support:

Dear Mr. Farrukh,
our ingenieurs want to involve the new cameras 1D MkIII and S5is into a new up-coming software version as well. This is because these camera has a different electronic inside versus other Canons. Otherwise we would be forced to release another new software version briefly one after the other which seems to be not very sensefull.
Also, to download a new software of 58 our home page needs to be up-dated with a special range which must be done in the future as well.
I have stored your e-mail to inform you as soon as a new software of 58 AF-1C and a download range on our home page is provided. Thnx for your understanding.

best regards

Thanks for the update, Farrukh.

I wonder what kind of update they're going to do for the Mark III. The 58AF seems to work just fine as it is with the Mark III I have. Hmm, I wonder if they're going to make it so you can control the 58AF from the Mark III just like you can for the 580EX II. :)

I'd wondered that... very cool... that just makes the mkIII even more tempting....

Well, the last update I gave on this they stated in September the update would be out. Looks like no change to that, therefore, stay tuned in September:).

Well, it looks like the v2 firmware update for the Metz 58AF-1c does not provide for the controlling of the flash via the Mark III menus. So I'm not sure what update they did specifically for the Mark III. But it does look like the firmware broke the ETTL wireless remote feature when the flash is used as a master with the 1D Mark II and the 1D Mark III. :(

No problem. I'll report it to nice metz man. An excuse for another firmware release :D
