Hi Everyone,

Been a while since I've been on the forum but getting back into my photography now. I tried getting some star trails this evening but have a question. What are the red, blue, white little dots in the picture and is there a way to avoid getting them? My settings were:

28mm
f5.6
762 seconds
ISO 100

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hot pixels caused by having the sensor turned on for so long.

Google the phrase "exposure stacking" for software solutions to this problem. (Or you could just clone them out, but most astrophotographers consider that to be an inelegant approach.)

turning noise reduction on will get rid of most of them...but will lock up your camera for a long time. still, it works well. custom function 2, if I remember correctly. good luck
