A cousin of mine was playing in the Lacrosee World Cup and I promised I'd come shoot. Sports is not my background, I mainly shoot skateboarding so I'd love to hear some tips.

I saw a guy shooting with a 1D MKII N and a 500mm...so dreamy.
edit: go team canada.

The shots look sharp and crisp. A tighter crop on the players would help a lot.

I agree, I was sitting there thinking how a 2x extender would have worked wonders.

Nice, sharp pics. The ref's dress is kinda humorous.
As mentioned, cropping tighter and/or shooting when the action is closer would help. Think about getting faces and expressions. I like to shoot soccer games from the goal lines to catch the action/faces coming towards me. Time the action so the ball is close to the players.

I presume these were shot with the 70-200? At 200? Can't get the EXIF data.
My experience with the 2X TC was not very positive - it made AF at least 50% slower so i sold it.
As far as timing the images, wait for the action to come to you, and time your shots to get faces. Backs of players are universally thought to be less than optimal. You might also think about kneeling down to maximize catching the faces. Most LAX games won't let you stand behind the end line like you can with soccer, from what I know.

I really like your last shot actually ... I really like the implied motion going forward on the field! Really cool! I wonder what shots with a 500 would be like though? You should have asked to play around with it!!!
I went to shoot a friends lacrosee game last september and wished I had more reach too. I would love to have a sexy 300 2.8 ... and perhaps even a 1.4x extender?
Nicely done though!
